The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination for recruitment to posts such as LDC/JSA, DEO, Postal Assistant, and Sorting Assistant. Candidates preparing for SSC CHSL 2026 must clearly understand the updated Tier I and Tier II exam pattern along with the Skill/Typing Test standards before starting preparation.

The SSC CHSL 2026 Exam consists of:

  • Tier I – Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Tier II – Computer-Based Exam + Skill/Typing Test

SSC CHSL 2026 Tier I Exam Pattern (CBT)

Tier I is the first stage of selection and tests fundamental knowledge.

Tier I Overview

  • Total Questions: 100 (Objective Type)

  • Total Marks: 200

  • Duration: 60 Minutes

  • Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer

  • Marks per Question: 2

All questions are objective multiple-choice type.

Because of 0.50 negative marking, avoid blind guessing and attempt only confident questions.

SSC CHSL 2026 Tier II Exam Pattern (CBT + Skill Test)

Tier II is more comprehensive and includes both computer-based testing and skill assessment. It consists of two sessions conducted on the same day.

Tier II – Session I (CBT)

Duration: 2 Hours 15 Minutes

Section 1

  • Mathematical Abilities – 30 Questions

  • Reasoning & General Intelligence – 30 Questions

Section 2

  • English Language & Comprehension – 40 Questions

  • General Awareness – 20 Questions

Section 3

  • Computer Knowledge Module – 15 Questions

This session evaluates advanced aptitude, comprehension, reasoning ability, and computer proficiency.

Start preparing computer fundamentals early as the Computer Knowledge Module is mandatory.

Tier II – Session II (Skill/Typing Test)

Session II is qualifying in nature but mandatory.

Skill Test (For DEO Posts)

  • Data Entry Speed: 8,000 key depressions per hour

  • Duration: 10 minutes

Typing Test (For LDC/JSA/Postal Assistant)

  • 35 words per minute (English)

  • 30 words per minute (Hindi)

  • Duration: 10 minutes

Practice daily typing exercises using a timer to meet the required speed standards.  

SSC CHSL 2026 Detailed Syllabus (Tier I & II)

Candidates must prepare topic-wise according to the official syllabus.

General Intelligence

Important topics include:

  • Semantic Analogy

  • Symbolic/Number Analogy

  • Space Visualization

Quantitative Aptitude

Focus on mastering arithmetic first, as it forms the scoring base.

English Language

  • Active/Passive Voice

  • Direct & Indirect Speech

  • Reading Comprehension

Revise grammar rules daily to reduce errors in Tier I and Tier II.

General Awareness

Questions are designed to test awareness about:

Revise last 6 months of current affairs thoroughly before the exam.  

Computer Proficiency (Tier II)

Topics include:

  • Organization of Computers

  • Memory & Storage Devices

  • Ports & Networking

Practice basic MS Office operations and keyboard shortcuts for better performance.

SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Procedure

The selection process follows:

  1. Tier I (CBT)

  2. Tier II (CBT + Skill/Typing Test)

  3. Document Verification

Final merit is prepared based on performance in Tier I and Tier II (CBT sections). Skill/Typing Test is qualifying in nature.

Score high in Tier I to secure a safe position for Tier II shortlisting.
